Kon Mamor Memorial Hospital
PROJECT TITLE: Kon Mamor Memorial Hospital
PROJECT LOCATION: Nyongrial at Baliet County, South Sudan
PROJECT DURATION: 2010-2017
Project Background:
The twenty-two year old civil war between North and South Sudan has shattered the social infrastructure in
Southern Sudan. Clinics, schools and water points were all severely damaged in the conflict which came to an end in
January, 2005, with the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. Countless Sudanese peoples are currently
returning to Southern Sudan, particularly in the Nyongrial area in Upper Nile State.
Countless people suffer and die needlessly from preventable and treatable diseases because there is no
accessible health care centre in this area.
In order to address the health concerns of Nyongrial community, Padang Lutheran Christian Relief has planned to
build the Kon Mamor Memorial Hospital in Nyongrial area with the aim to give more attention to particularly quality
medical services for children, women and men in Southern Sudan. The proposed hospital will be named in memory of
Kon Mamor who was a significant figure in this area. As soon funds become available, the hospital construction will
commence.
In addition, PLCR will facilitate this hospital untill the end of December, 2017. Afterwards, the hospital will
be handed over to the Ministry of Health in Upper Nile State in Southern Sudan.
The initial Phase of this hospital will include the Outpatient Clinic and Community Health Unit with the aim of
offering specialized medical services in Nyongrial area. Those two buildings have been planned in such a way that
they later can become the initial facility for a full 120 Bed Hospital to function as a referral hospital for the
entire population in Baliet County.
The new medical clinic facility will be able to start giving compassionate medical services to the community of
Nyongrial area in Southern Sudan.
Project Design:
The MSAADA Architects has already drafted the preliminary concept design for the hospital but funds are needed
in order to break ground.
Project Cost:
In this context, PLCR is seeking sponsors and donors to fund the initial Phase of this Hospital project. More
detailed cost estimates for the full hospital project can be provided. But with new construction cost in Southern
Sudan is seemingly considerably higher than in neighbouring countries in East Africa due to the situation there,
this initial phase program can be realized for the following costs:
Clinic construction cost: $234,000
Clinic furnishings: $80,000
Annual Operating Cost: $ 120,000
Total required financial assistance for this Project: $434,000
Funding assistance for this project is tax deductible. Thank you for your joint venture in this
effort!
